How to bid in the Convention AuctionTHE MATCHBOX CONVENTION AUCTION 26-27 MARCH 2010
Because this is to be the final Convention and Auction we are enabling non conventioneers to bid for the majority of the 150 lots. The auction is open to Club members and non-members alike.
All received bids from non conventioneers will be entered into the auctioneer's Bid Book and will be used at the Convention auction. In other words, all bids will count but in the event of a tie, the convention bid will win.
Postal/E-Mail bids must be received by 10 am (UK time) on Tuesday 23 March via the Auction check out
OR in an envelope clearly marked' AUCTION' to our PO Box address - we cannot accept late bids.
We have given the reserve and no lot will be sold at a lower value than the reserve.
HOW TO BID There are 2 ways:
(a) State a specific amount in sterling against the lot or lots you are interested in. eg:
LOT 1 £I00: LOT 2 £250 OR
(b) You can add to these amounts with running bids up to a MAXIMUM amount. This will assist us if two or more of you bid the exact same amount for a particular lot. By adding a further sequence of bids this should more often than not provide a top bidder. e.g.:
LOT 3 - £70 but if necessary £80, £90, £100 with £110 being the MAXIMUM bid. This will mean that the actual bid is at least £70 and no more than £ 110 and depending on the interest in that lot may well go to the bidder for £70. Please keep the bids in £10s and not single £ bids.
Please note that where there are identical bids, the bidder with the earliest e-mail/letter will be used at the Convention.
BUYER'S COMMISSION: Club Members (as of 26 February 2010) pay 5% on top of the sold (hammer) price & Non-members pay 10% on top of the sold (hammer) price
Successful bidders will be contacted on Monday 29 March
BUYER'S CHARGES: Successful bidders will be charged for the postage at cost (there will be discounted rates for multiple purchases). There will be a £5 per lot admin/handling charge
Successful bidders will be invoiced for their 'won' lots on Monday 29 March with payment within 7 days by credit card or by PayPal (plus 5% to cover their commissions and charges) Remember as with the normal Postal Auction, no lots will sell for less than the reserve price.
And the prices realised will be emailed, on request only to members/non members who submitted bids on those specific lots.
TELEPHONE BIDDING We will have a limited number of telephones that can take live bidding.
However, the stated reserve of the lot (s) must be over £300 and a written bid for the lot (s) must have been received by Tuesday 23 March. If for any reason, and the Club accepts no liability, the telephone bid (s) are not received, then the written bids will be accepted.
Please email kevin@matchboxclub.com if you may wish to bid by telephone by 20 March latest. ****************************
Details of the next Postal Auction (26/1) of rare and pre-production models will appear on the web site www.matchboxclub.com in mid-late April 2010.

Some recent testimonials from sellers...The Matchbox Club postal auction is now in its 15th year...if you have Matchbox models and you want to sell them, send an email to kevin@matchboxclub.com for a quick and professional appraisal...
Recent testimonials:
"After many years I recently decided to sell my Matchbox MOY collection, the run of the mill models went to a regular public auction and fetched very little. However I did own some rarer models including a Blue Hoover with Certificate and I put these in the Matchbox Club Postal Auction and was delighted with the price that they fetched.
I was also impressed at the way it was conducted and my sincere thanks to Kevin for his very professional approach to the Matchbox Club." Jeff Williams (non member) May 2009
"The sale of my Matchbox toys was conducted entirely by email. During our correspondence Kevin responded to my various queries promptly and courteously. It was a pleasure to have the matter dealt with so efficiently.
From the time I first approached Kevin in regard to the possible auction of my collection to the day when I received a larger than expected cheque for the sale proceeds, it took just 11 weeks. " Alan Moore (non member) June 2009 |

How to bid in the postal auction...THE MATCHBOX CLUB POSTAL AUCTION
Postal bids must be received by 10 am (UK time) via the Auction check out OR in an envelope clearly marked' AUCTION' - we cannot accept late bids.
We have given the reserve and no lot will be sold at a lower value than the reserve.
HOW TO BID There are 3 ways:
(a) State a specific amount in sterling against the lot or lots you are interested in. eg:
LOT 1 £ I 00: LOT 2 £250 OR
(b) You can add to these amounts with running bids up to a MAXIMUM amount. This will assist us if two or more of you bid the exact same amount for a particular lot. By adding a further sequence of bids this should more often than not provide a top bidder. e.g.:
LOT 3 - £70 but if necessary £80, £90, £100 with £101 being the MAXIMUM bid. This will mean that the actual bid is at least £70 and no more than £ 101 and depending on the interest in that lot may well go to the bidder for £70.
Please note that where there are identical bids, the bidder with the earliest e-mail will be successful.
OR
(c) It is also possible to enter an 'Either/Or' bid which means that if lots exceed your top price you can indicate another lot that you would like as your second choice, again indicating the top price you wish to pay. Please note that the second lot must occur after the first choice lot in order for it to be an Either/Or" bid. Please write' Either/Or'
Buyer's commission: Members pay 5% and Non-members pay 10% on top of the sold (hammer) price
We will accept telephone calls to describe the lots in more detail or to explain if necessary how to bid, but we will not accept telephone bids.
A photocopy of the under-bidders bid will be supplied if requested minus their name and address.
Details of the next Postal Auction on rare and pre-production models will appear on the web site www.matchboxclub.com as will the realised prices.
