Kevin McGimpsey the editor of the Matchbox Club web site and its team of writers welcome you to The Matchbox Club (MICA).

In 1985, Kevin and Stewart Orr founded MICA at the request of the Matchbox trade mark owners, Matchbox International. Matchbox wanted an official and independently run club and so Kevin and Stewart worked closely with MatchboxToys UK based in Enfield, Middlesex England in order to keep the members regularly informed about the Matchbox hobby.

Although the Matchbox brand has changed hands several times since 1985, the Matchbox Club continues today.

Between 1985 and 2007 MICA published 132 magazines and ran 47 Matchbox Conventions in countries including Australia, the USA, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.

Stewart left in 2001 and Kevin has continued to run the Club since. Due to print costs it was decided to cease printing the magazine in 2007 and to instead communicate with members and Matchbox collectors via a quarterly E-Magazine.

The Matchbox Club went live on the net on 1 July 2007 and comprises 7 main parts:

The www.matchboxclub.com site
The E-Magazine (4 a year): #18 will be published in October 2011 (available to members)
The Postal Auction (4 a year)
Auction results (available to members)
The Matchbox Shop
The Club's Archives of past articles
The monthly Matchbox Ambassador's Report on what's new!
The 2011 Matchbox Club Annual (optional charge)

You can also buy all kinds of old, new and rare Matchbox products through the Matchbox Club Auctions, which take place every 8 to 12 weeks. The Matchbox Club emails its members when the next auction is about to begin...and to close.

Even if you don't wish to be a member, please do visit us again because there will new articles of interest posted on the site regularly and these are free to read.
